Laos' Luang Prabang among world's top beautiful places to visit in 2024, says report
VIENTIANE, Jan. 4 (Bernama-VNA) -- The United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage Site
Luang Prabang in northern Laos has been listed among the 50 tourist
destinations worldwide for 2024, reported Vietnam News Agency (VNA), quoting
the Indian Times Travel.
Luang Prabang, ranked 11th, boasts Buddhist temples, vibrant
markets, and the scenic Mekong River, making it a true haven for a laid-back
escape.
The locality is also recommended for its community-led
conservation efforts, groundbreaking work in ecotourism as well as
sustainability and inclusive travel.
As for the Lao government’s Visit Laos Year 2024 tourism
promotion programme, it's a great start to aim at bringing more foreign
tourists to the country to realise the set target of welcoming at least 4.6
million domestic and foreign arrivals this year.
Apart from that, Luang Prabang received 12 travel awards in
2023 under the ASEAN Tourism Standards scheme, and is one of the most
well-known provinces in Laos and a top tourist draw because of its riverside
location, old temples, quaint streets and alleyways, traditional festivals, and
scenic beauty.
The town’s old quarter was listed as a World Heritage Site
in 1995 by UNESCO, which deemed that its architecture was culturally
significant and worthy of protection by the United Nations. Bernama-VNA
