Most Romantic Wedding Destinations, Luang Prabang, Laos
Luang Prabang has been highlighted as a world-class popular tourist destination once again after an Australian travel website listed the World Heritage site among 11 of the world’s most romantic wedding destinations.
Laos’ well-known tourist destination was number five among the 11 destinations shown on the Qantas Travel Insider website.
Paris, France came first followed by Maasai Mara of Kenya. Monte Carlo, Monaco came in third followed by Ravello of Italy and then Luang Prabang in Laos.
The other six listed were Vik in Iceland, Zermatt of Switzerland, Soufrière of Saint Lucia, Venice in Italy, Santorini of Greece and New York City in the United States.
As destination weddings become more and more popular, couples are heading further afield in search of the right location, the website stated.
“Away from Asia’s numerous beach destinations lies this beautiful French Colonial outpost and UNESCO World Heritage site that only opened to tourism in 1989”, the magazine quoted.
“Luang Prabang retains the rare charm of another era, with traditional wooden houses alongside grand colonial mansions, and a daily procession of monks through the ancient streets.”

“It’s also home to dozens of temples, many of them beautifully decorated and golden clad, casting an almost surreal glow at sunset. Luang Prabang has been described as everything from traditional to timeless, sacred and even magical – a perfect setting for your very own fairytale,” the website announced.
Qantas Travel Insider is home to over 6,000 online exclusive city guides, features and galleries. It is also the digital home of Qantas The Australian Way – one of the world’s leading travel publications.
The popular tourist destination ranking given by Qantas Travel Insider has spotlighted Luang Prabang’s popularity once again after Wanderlust, a leading British travel magazine, recently named Luang Prabang as the world’s best city to visit.
L uang Prabang scooped ‘Best City’ in the Wanderlust Travel Awards 2015 after gaining the highest vote from the Wanderlust readers.
Wanderlust readers previously ranked Luang Prabang as “best tourist destination” for three consecutive years from 2006-2008. It lost the top ranking in 2009 but was still in the top 10 in the same category before again topping the list from 2010 to 2012.
Authorities of Luang Prabang province, former capital of the Lane Xang Kingdom (present day Laos), are preparing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Luang Prabang as a World Heritage Site on March 3. UNESCO declared the town a World Heritage Site in 1995 and since then tourist arrivals have risen with each passing year.
